15 basic tips to make your day better

We’ve all had that one day when we feel like punching someone or cry our hearts out… either way, here’s a list of 15 basic tips to make your day better.

~CLEAN YOUR AREA. Most of the times, seeing that our rooms are dirty or that the place is very crowded by our stuff makes us feel stressed. Cleaning the space where you do your homework or where you simply chill will make you feel relieved and as if you have less to-do’s (you might feel pressured to clean your room, or just clean, without knowing).

~GO OUTSIDE. Being in the same place for too long will make you feel trapped and chained to something. Go to the beach, the park or somewhere where you can breathe fresh air and sort your thoughts out.

~SURROUnD YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE. Being around people who focus on the dark side of things will make you do the same. If you want to be happier, surround yourself with people who make you feel at ease, make you laugh and, overall, feel better.

START YOUR DAY WITH A HAPPY THOUGHT. This can be either a happy memory, an inspirational quote or simply a compliment to yourself by yourself. As soon as you wake up, remind yourself any of these things and I’ll assure you that your day will start the right way.

~EAT THE RIGHT FOOD. A balanced diet is essential to boost your energy levels, so if you want to be more energetic and feel fresh, make sure you include fruits and vegetables to your diet, preferably the ones you like the most so you enjoy eating them.

~HELP OTHERS. Believe it or not, helping others makes us feel better about ourselves. Even if this sounds somewhat egocentric and selfish, helping other human beings is a beneficial for the person who’s helping and the person who’s being helped; it’s a win-win situation. Nevertheless, the best thing you can give to people is your time. Listen to that one troubled friend of yours, visit that asylum you’ve planned on visiting but never did, go to that fund-raising event you’ve been trying to avoid.

~DRINK WATER. As your science teacher might have said once, water is crucial to us humans. Our mood is affected by dehydration, so make sure you drink enough water throughout the day.

~TALK TO SOMEONE. People are social beings. Don’t isolate yourself, talk to somebody, whether it is to your mom, your sister, your friend, or your neighbor. If needed, vent to someone, preferably someone you trust. By doing this, you’ll feel relieved and with less weight on your shoulders.

~WRITE DOWN YOUR THOUGHTS OR FEELINGS. Sometimes we just don’t feel like socializing (the last tip would be crossed out in this situation), so writing down what we feel, or think, might help us get things straight and feel well.

~TAKE A BREAK. There could be times when we’re saturated with activities and we become very overwhelmed by all the things we need to get done. In cases like this, taking a break may be exactly what we need. Not only will we feel motivated and fresh afterwards, but we’ll also be in the right state of mind and be less stressed than before.

~EXERCISE. When we exercise, our body releases endorphins, which are hormones that reduce the perception of pain and make us feel happier and less stressed. By exercising regularly, we boost our moods and, therefore, feel well.

~TRY NEW THINGS. Repeatedly doing the same activities with your friends or with your significant other may eventually become boring. Make sure you try a new restaurant, a new location, a new activity, or something you’re not used to every once in a while (keep it legal).

~MANAGE YOUR TIME. Not knowing when we’ll do things and being disorganized may have a negative impact on us. To avoid the stress and the worrying, manage your activities and schedule them on an agenda, your phone, or any place you want as long as you visualize what you need to do and when you need to do.

~HUG SOMEONE. It’s been proven that hugging a loved one has a positive effect on us as it makes our body release endorphins, the same hormone we talked about on tip 11. By hugging any family member, friend, or anyone we love, we’ll be in a better mood and feel motivated the rest of the day.

~PET YOUR CAT OR DOG. This may not apply to anyone as someone could be allergic to dogs or cats or simply not like them, but petting these lovely creatures will help reduce stress and, as a consequence, it’ll make us feel happy.
