Some of the Best Movies Nominated for The Academy Awards...

The Oscars are nearly here and if you haven’t seen at least 5 of the nominated movies I don’t know what you’re doing with your life. If you love watching films like me, and want to know what’s really going on while watching the Oscars, you definitely have to see these movies. Also, most of these are nominated for best picture.

(DISCLAIMER: All of these are nominated for Best Picture except for Coco which is nominated for Best Animated Feature Film)

1. LADY BIRD

As soon as this movie starts you won’t help but laugh. This amazing comedy filmed by director, Greta Gerwig, is based on the year of 2002. It follows the story of Christine (aka Lady Bird), a senior whose relationship with her mother is rough to say the least. Without spoiling anything, you should just know that with this movie you’ll get a bit of everything; romance, comedy and drama.

This movie also features: Saoirse Ronan, Lucas Hedges, Timothée Chalamet and Laurie Metcalf.

2. Call Me By Your Name

Words can’t really describe this one. I guess it basically is a coming of age, beautifully made movie. It’s also set around the 80’s in Italy. Following around Elio Perlman’s life, we get a perspective of what life was like for him as a teenager around this decade. Meeting his father’s new student, Oliver, he wouldn’t imagine what that summer would bring to him. Expect some tears.

This movie, as well as Lady Bird, is nominated for best picture… which speaks for itself.

Featuring: Timothée Chalamet (nominated for Best Actor), Armie Hammer, Esther Garrel and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Director: Luca Guadagnino.

3.

Take your tissues out cause this movie will make you cry a river (We love you JT).

Miguel dreams of being a musician and follows his idol’s footsteps, Ernesto de la Cruz. When trying to prove his point to his family he somehow gets trapped in the land of the dead and later on discovers a big secret his family has been hiding from him. This movie portraits good music, Mexican culture and shows the beauty of it all. You should all watch it, and remember me (and this blog) when you start crying.

Cast: Anthony González, Benjamin Bratt and Gael García Bernal.

Director: Lee Unkrich.

4. D U N K I R K

Based on World War II, DUNKIRK follows the path of a young man experiencing the war from being a part of the Allied Troops. This movie is also nominated for Best Picture, because of its beautiful cinematography and, film and sound editing that will make you feel like you´re actually in it.

Director: Christopher Nolan

Cast: Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Harry Styles and Mark Rylance.

*Nominated for Best Picture*

5. Get Out

This movie is definitely on the scarier side. I'd really recommend watching this one without really knowing what it's about but if you need some convincing then keep on reading.

While getting away to meet his girlfriend's parents, Chris faces racism in a particularly way. At first he thinks its just because Rose's (his girlfriend) parents weren't used to see people like him unless they were houseworkers. But everything turns to a big mess as soon as he starts noticing their odd behaviour.

Director: Jordan Peele

Cast: Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Catherine Keener.

*Nominated for Best Picture*

If you've already watched all of the movies listed and want to see more make sure to at least see all of the ones that are nominated for Best Picture.

So don’t forget to watch the Oscars on March 4th on your local TV (or keep an eye on live transmissions.
