Highlights of the 2018 FIFA World Cup
After the french’s victory over Croatia, the 2018’s FIFA World Cup comes to an end.
This was an event full of excitement and surprises, starting with the early elimination of some of the all-time favorites like Germany, Spain and Argentina but also with the astonishing performance of the mexican and croatian team in the first matches of the group phase.
Here are some of this year’s World Cup highlights, fun facts and results:
Almost 3 million spectators attended this sports event based in Russia, filling around 98% of the stadiums capacities.
62 matches were played with only one of them ending in a tie with 0 goals from both teams (France – Denmark).
English player Harry Kane was the top scorer with 6 goals while other participants such as Antoine Griezmann (France), Romelu Lukaku (Germany), Denis Cheryshev (Rusia), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) and Kylian Mbappe (France) followed close behind with a total of 4 succesful scores.
Kylian Mbappe won his first World Cup at the age of 19 and was awarded the World Cup Young Player award. He also became the first teen to score two times in a single match since 1958 Pele’s performance (when they beat Argentina 4-3).
Luka Modric won the Golden Ball award for the best player of the 2018 tournament while Eden Hazard got the Silver Ball and Antoine Griezmann was given the Bronce Ball; Thibaut Courtois claimed the Golden Glove.
With some luck the next four years will go by in the blink of an eye and before we know it we'll be watching these talented athletes proudly representing their countries in Qatar!
