Rome in 5 days

Have you ever had the opportunity to visit a beautiful city but just have a few days to do it? Being among the top 20 most visited spots in the world, Rome is a place full of treasures that you definitely have to visit at least once in your life if possible.

Some people can be lucky enough to have long vacations at these cities with money at their disposition, but many may be looking for a much basic, shorter and cheaper but still amazing trip.

Therefore, I will tell you about my experience this summer, hoping to provide a useful list of spots you can visit for on the same day, along with some touristic tips.

1. The best way to move around is by walking, using the metro will be useful once or twice. For this I highly recommend including comfortable shoes in your packing list. You’ll walk around 10k every day, but I promise the view and everything along the way is worth it.

2. Always compare prices, you are going to see many same-looking stores with the same products, you’ll probably get the best deals on streets that are not near the main ones like Villa della Conciliazione.

3. About food, try booking a hotel that includes breakfast. Prepare some snacks for the day, and take around 10€ for food. You’ll probably end up having only one strong meal at a cheap restaurant (ranging from 5 to 7 euros per person) because of all the spots you’ll be visiting. Just make sure to keep yourself hydrated!

4. Definitely try some gelato! Rome’s gelato is famous and delicious. Having a nice try of a cold and sugary ice cream at the end of a long walk will be the highlight of your day.

5. NEVER buy tickets for the Vatican museums from people on the streets. They’ll look very official with their badges and will say anything to try to convince you, but THERE IS NO LINES, I only had to wait around 15 minutes to go in and would have paid double if not.

6. Before leaving, check out a map of Rome with its best attractions, try visiting by zones each day. Another good tip is to walk to the farthest place from your hotel first, then do your way back to evade darkness. (This is especially useful when travelling alone or with children). Don’t forget to take your printed map everywhere you go.

Keep reading for a day-to-day schedule. You may not want to follow it, just make sure to use a different route back to your hotel every day.

I hope you enjoy some basic vacations next time in Rome. See ya!
